Our comfortable 1000 Island Park cottage sleeps 10 and is ideal for large or extended families. It offers two Master bedrooms on the ground floor, each with queen sized beds. There are two full baths (one on each floor), a third bedroom downstairs with a set of bunk beds, and a large loft bedroom for the kids upstairs with four singles and a double. It is located within easy walking distance to everything in the Park, yet it is in a quite area away from the 'packed in like sardines' cottages where you can't have a conversation without all the neighbors overhearing. This cottage offers privacy and lots of room to spread out while overlooking the State Park Golf Course, tennis courts and a large forever green park like area for the kids to run and play in directly across from the cottage. It's also less than 200 yards away from the Park's 'Swimming Cove', a sandy beach, with a shallow swimming area and a floating swim platform. The cottage has a laundry room, pantry, kitchen with Fridge, microwave, range, coffee maker, etc., a Fischer wood stove, a dining area and living room with cable tv, dvd, cd stereo system and Wi-Fi.

About Matt Withers Our 'Scratch Pad' cottage has been owned and enjoyed by our family for nearly 40 years. Before my folks could afford their own cottage in this 'Garden of the Gods' as the Native Americans called it, we rented cottages in the Park. We never missed a summer. When an opportunity came up to buy a cottage, they invested. A few years later, as our family grew and kids began starting their own families, we bought what is now Scratch Pad, to handle us all. When purchased, the cottage received a near total make over to what it looks like today. Matt Withers purchased this Cottage in 1980.
Why Matt Withers chose Wellesley Island It's a family affair for us at the Park. I have my mother, two sisters and a brother and their families each owning their own cottage in the Park. My wife and I, along with our three children, also have a second cottage where we spend our summers. This allows us to invite family and friends to visit and stay at Scratch Pad, or to offer it for rent.
We've hosted wedding parties, family reunions, 50th Wedding Anniversaries, Thanksgivings and Christmases, and all kinds of celebrations at this cottage. My family loves to come up in the winter to stay at the cottage and snowmobile around town. It's quiet, beautiful, and toasty warm in the cottage with our wood burning Fischer stove. What makes this Cottage unique My kids enjoy inviting their friends up to T.I.Park for a visit and being able to introduce them to the natural beauty and fun of 'the River' and of Thousand Island Park.
They love to tube behind our boat, paddle their double kayak over to South Bay and back, fish for 'Sunnys' off the dock, swim at the Cove, sunbath at the Main Dock with the other teens, work at the movie theater, and meet their friends at the fire pit at night. My wife and I enjoy inviting friends over after dinner to sit on our porch with a glass of wine or two, to talk, tell stories and jokes, or play cards or a board game til it's too dark to see. We also enjoy walking up to the Wellesley Hotel for a great meal served on their porch, joining trivia night in the Pub, taking visitors for boat rides to point out the famous landmarks on the River, going to the Clayton Opera House for a show, and making a run across the border for the great Canadian beer we can't get in the US. We've seen the Northern Lights several times from the porch of Scratch Pad and that never grows old. You can just see the lights of the bridge too. We've taken advantage of all the room around us by flying kites, playing wiffle ball, tossing a frisbee, setting up a volley ball net for a family tournament, tossing lawn darts, or learning to ride bikes.

Our family group gathered for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the island. The cottage was perfectly located, close to everything we needed.
There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The wrap around porch was great for lounging and enjoying the ambiance. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed.
It was great having the washer and dryer to avoid hauling lots of dirty laundry back home. Matt was very welcoming on our arrival and advised us of local attractions that we should take in. Everyone we met on the island were so friendly and shared the history and unique features of this charming place. And everyone knew Scratch Pad! Seems like we shared a piece of history for that week and we will definitely be back again.
We really enjoy our stay at the cottage. Great location for relaxing at the River. Kitchen was fully equipped with all you needed.
The location was great being close to the cove for swimming and having some tennis courts right across the street. A lot of room for grandchildren to play. Very quiet at all the times of the day. Very clean and it was a bless to have a washer and dryer. That upstairs loft was great for the grandchildren who loved it and there parents joined them for a few nights. We enjoy the wrap around porch and spent plenty of time sitting on it and enjoying the great weather.
We are look forward to renting it again next summer. My family - now grown and dispersed - loves the Thousand Islands and misses our regular forays there. Scratch Pad was the perfect place to gather again for a fabulous two weeks. The description is exactly right and helped convince us this would be a great place for little kids - the open field across the 'street' was the site of ad hoc softball games; the swimming hole, playground, pavilion, and ice cream shop were the perfect distance away; the tennis courts were a great place for a little practice; the golf course was so close; the neighbors weren't right on top of us; and the layout of the house was perfect for the variety of families with kids and babies of various ages.
The porch swing was a great favorite for all and we ended up eating most meals on the deck. Oh, and the hose bib in the front yard provided great fun for the little boys! The large number of fans were greatly appreciated and came in very handy during the 90+ degree days! Also, the boat slip that can be rented is absolutely protected and very accessible.
The only little problem we had was with the refrigerator but Matt and his wife responded quickly to provide us with coolers and advice until he was able to make sure it was working properly. We had a GREAT time and loved Scratch Pad.
